Reversible DIY Porch Sign- Painting the Boards
QUICK NOTE: If your boards have marks or numbers on them that you don’t want to show through taking some white paint and paint over whatever you do NOT want to show thru. Let that dry before you begin to paint the orange.
We started by painting the boards orange. There are two different oranges above because we each used a different orange. We grabbed two paintbrushes and painted both boards all orange.
The colors and designs are completely up to you and can be switched out.
Reversible DIY Porch Sign- Halloween Side
While the boards were drying we went inside and opened up Cricut design space and Uploaded the SVG File that I bought from Design Bundles. Halloween Porch Sign Quotes by Olive Studio

Quick steps to upload the file
Quick steps- Download file-Extract all and choose a location to save it to. Once it is done extracting go into Cricut Design Space, start a new canvas, then go to the upload icon in the left-hand side panel. Then upload Image, find the file and click it to upload. Once it is uploaded select it and put it onto the canvas.

OK so we have the SVG bundle on our canvas. Now is the time for you to decide which sign you want to make. We used The Spooky Witch lives here, but the choice is yours!
Ungrouping the Halloween SVG Bundle
Select the SVG bundle and head on up to the top Right and hit the ungroup button. See image below.

They should all move individually as five different signs now, but they are STILL grouped together as signs.
Now you have a choice here, You can either hide the other signs you will not be using or you can delete them off your canvas. I tend to hide mine in case I change my mind and want to use a piece or part of another. LOL
Now we only have the one sign we are going to work with on the canvas. I then went ahead and ungrouped The Spooky Witch Lives here sign again. Now every word and image moves as a piece I moved them to show you in the image below.

Before we get any further, let’s go ahead and name and save our project! Hit the save button and a screen will pop up to name it:)
Sizing and layout for the Halloween DIY Porch Sign
I then went ahead and sized everything to the board size we were working with.
- THE= 5.065 (W) x 3.222 (H)
- Spooky= 5.44 (W) x 1.751 (H)
- Witch= 2.948 (W) x 11.221 (H)
- Lives= 5.368 (W) x 1.943 (H)
- Here= 4.912 (W) x 2.691 (H)
Next let’s duplicate the witch’s shoes just in case something goes wrong. LOL If you have read some of my other articles I am a huge duplicate of the original person! 😂🤣
Slicing the shoes and stockings
So we wanted the shoes and stocking different colors vs one color So we had to separate them.
We are first going to ungroup the witch’s shoes because both sides are grouped together. So select the shoes and go up to the ungroup icon and hit that. Now let’s grab a square from the shapes icon and place that over the stockings like the picture below.
Note: If you try to slice them while they are grouped together you can’t! Cricut design space won’t allow a grouped item to be sliced.

We are now going to select both the Square and the left shoe and head down to the slice tool in the bottom right corner. Slice it. and do the same with the other side. Select the square, send it to the front, select the square and right shoe and again head down to the slice icon and slice it. The results are below.

Size for the stockings and shoes
- Left Stocking= 1.574 (W) x 3.993 (H)-Green
- Left Shoe= 2.549 (W) x 3.463 (H)-Purple
- Right Stocking= 1.574 (W) x 3.951 (H)-Green
- Right Shoe= 2.551 (W) x 3.452 (H)- Purple
We are now going to get them all laid out and start changing the colors and figuring out which colors you are going to be using. We did decide to keep the words all black and changed the witch’s shoes to purple and the stockings to green.
I found cute little bats under images in Cricut Design Space and sliced bats into the shoes. Bats #M7D0F7C3
You can search by the number is Design Space. The # has to be in there when you search for an image or it won’t work.

Now we are going to add fun spiders, ghosts, and a witches hat to the sign. If you go into images you can search for these numbers. Or you can do a search to see which ones you like for you!
- Ghost #M8DB1B9D
- Witch Hat 1 #M8997F6C
- Witch Hat 2 #MCB6BDDC
- Spider #M872D04D

Sizes for extras
- Big Ghost= 1.834 (W) x 2.833 (H)
- Small Ghost= 1.349 (W) x 2.083 (H)
- Hat 1= 4.338 (W) x 3.958 (H)
- Spider= 1.749 (W) x 2.056 (H)
- Hat 2= 5.157 (W) x 5.501 (H)
I also used the bats that we cut out of the shoes to place on my sign.
We duplicated some of the ghosts and made another spider. The add ons are really what you want on your DIY Porch Sign.
Next, we are going to weld all the words together so they are cut the way they are laid out. So select each word and head down to the weld icon in the bottom right-hand corner and hit weld on each and every word.
Sending it to cut
We are now ready to cut this. Head up to the make it button in Cricut design space and we then come to our mats screen.

Here we can rearrange how our mats are laid out. So go through the mats and make sure everything looks good and if you want something somewhere else you can move it here.
I did this on purpose so we could work on the editing of our cutting mats. We could have matched all the colors by going into the Color Sync in the right-hand panel by the layers tab.
Just click on the image you want to move and hit move object. At this point, you can pick the mat you want to move it to. I will be moving this hat and the spiders to mat 4 because we are cutting our hats and spiders out of holographic Vinyl.

Since I moved the hat and spiders I now have the room to combine mats 2 and 3 because all that is going to be black but I know mat 4 is Holographic, even though it’s a black mat. Nothing is on mat 3 now. I also combined mats 7 and 8 because they are both purples.
The Cutting Mats and what they should look like for your DIY Porch Sign

Once we are satisfied with how our mats are, let’s continue with the continue button on the lower right-hand side and we are taken to a screen that looks like this.
Set Material to Vinyl for your Reversible DIY Porch Sign

Your screen may look different just soo you are aware. But we will then select our material which in our case is vinyl, Glitter Vinyl, and also Holographic Vinyl. But again this is your choice.
We are now going to prepare our mat for the first cut, which is the white for the ghost. Once our vinyl is on our mat let’s set it into our Cricut machine and press the flashing arrow button. Then the Cricut button.
While that is cutting let’s get our vinyl organized for the next mat which is the black vinyl. Once your cutting machine is done cutting the ghosts remove the mat from the cutting machine and use your scraper to scrape up the vinyl and your ghosts should be cut on your mat.
Weeding

Let’s scrape those up off our mat and set the ghost aside and continue on with the rest of the mats.
While the other mats are cutting I tend to start weeding the pieces that need it and take the outside layer off that is around the pieces.
There will be weeding in some of the pieces. Weeding just means that we are getting rid of the pieces that are no longer needed.
For instance, the Ghost we would be weeding out the eyes and mouth so it would actually have a face. LOL Along with pulling off the outside vinyl around the pieces.
NOTE: Before I take the outer layer around the pieces off I do cut it down to size so I am NOT wasting all that extra Material.
For some reason, I didn’t take any pictures along the way. But this picture will give you a good idea of how we sized and cut our vinyl so we didn’t waste the extra and shows you how we weeded ours.

Transfer Tape Time
Alright, we are sooooo close. We are now going to grab our transfer tape and begin cutting the sizes off that we need for all the pieces shown above. Once that’s done we are going to peel the backing off of the transfer tape and apply them to each and every piece.
We did use our scraper to secure the vinyl to the transfer tape and then peeled the backing off the vinyl once it was stuck to the transfer tape.

We did that for each and every piece and then positioned it on the board. Once we got all the pieces secured with the transfer tape and peeled, we then applied the vinyl to our board using the scraper. Spacing is completely up to you!

Fall- Reversible DIY Wood Porch Sign
Alright WOOHOO We got the Halloween side done, now we are ready to make the Fall Side. We can either start a new blank canvas or hide all the pieces for the Halloween sign. The Choice is yours.
We choose to make a blank canvas so it’s clean.
Making the Text for the Sign
We started by Typing the F out and once that was done we switched the font to Aphrodite Pro but again the choice is yours to choose which font you like. We used individual text boxes for each of the letters in Fall.
So hit the text icon and type F, then hit the text icon and repeat with the L and do the same for the other L. They should all be individual letters. We decided to change the A out with a leaf. If you want to use the exact leaf we did go into the image icon and search for the leaf with this number- #M8D20EB7
Next, we wrote out the IS in a text box, then the IN in a separate text box, continuing with THE in another text box, and finally the AIR in another text box.
Air remained the same font which was Aphrodite Pro, but we switched the IS, IN, and THE font to Arioso Com regular
NOTE: If you are using the font we did, then the spacing is going to need to be fixed. You can play with the letter-spacing first then when it’s almost perfect ungroup and move the ones in that need to be moved.
If you need more help with this please check out my Ultimate Beginners Guide to Cricut Design Space or my article on Editing Text in Cricut Design Space.
Sizes for Images
- F (Aphrodite Pro Font)=3.841 (W) x 3.053 (H)-Light Brown Vinyl
- Autumn Leaf= 2.987 (W) x 3.847 (H)- Maroon Vinyl
- L (Aphrodite Pro Font)= 3.647 (W) x 3.767 (H)- Light Brown Vinyl
- L (Aphrodite Pro Font)= 3.647 (W) x 3.767 (H)- Maroon Vinyl
- is (Arioso Com Regular)= 3.402 (W) x 3.777 (H)- Light Brown Vinyl
- in (Arioso Com Regular)= 3.878 (W) x 3.376 (H)- Maroon Vinyl
- the (Arioso Com Regular)= 4.269 (W) x 3.028 (H)- Yellow Vinyl
- AIR (Aphrodite Pro Font)= 5.452 (W) x 2.698 (H)- Gold Vinyl
Once we have everything sized we then started changing the colors and putting them in order. I listed the colors and sizes above.
Adding the extras and sizing
- Truck with Apples- #M9FC4690
- SIZE for Truck with apples= 4.821 (W) x 4.463 (H)
- Search for leaves and pick your favorite
- Our two Glitter Dark Brown Leaves that match= 2.029 (W) x 2.539 (H)
- 1 brown leaf that’s different= 2.152 (W) x 2.253 (H)
- 5 point green leaf=2.21 (W) x 2.079 (H)
- Other green leaf= 1.898 (W) x 1.746 (H)
Let’s make sure we weld the words together and should be ready to cut. Let’s hit the make it button and our mats should look like this.
I did combine mats 3 and 4 because there’s no need to cut 3 different browns. I also combined mats 7 and 8 so the greens match.

The same steps, as above, will now happen. We are ready to cut.
Select the material you are working with which should be vinyl unless you chose a different material. And follow the steps from above.
Quick steps are below.
- Begin with mat 1 and start cutting
- Start mat 2 and while that cuts weed mat 1 and so on.
- Once all mats are cut and everything is weeded out cut the transfer tape into the size you need for each and every piece.
- Apply the transfer tape and remove the vinyl backing.
- Once it is on the transfer tape apply the vinyl to your boards. The spacing is completely up to you!
