Having trouble expressing yourself or finding your creativity? If so, you may need to do some sacral chakra healing. But before we get into The Sacral Chakra: all you need to know about your second chakra, let us have a refresher on what a chakra is.
In Sanskrit, the word “Chakra” means “disc” or “wheel” and refers to the invisible energy seats/centers in your body.
The chakras are wheels of spinning and rotating energy (life force/ prana) that moves inside of you and each chakra corresponds to certain nerve bundles and major organs.
Each Chakra has its own corresponding color, area of focus, tone, and vibrational frequency. The chakras can be extremely helpful when assessing areas of your life that need support!

Getting to know our Sacral Chakra
The Sacral chakra is the second energy center in the human body. It’s located just below the belly button and above the pubic bone. It corresponds to the lower end of the spinal cord, between the L4 and L5 vertebrae in particular. It also corresponds to our emotions, sexuality, creativity, self-worth, and sense of belonging or not belonging in life.
This Chakra is responsible for creating stability, security, and confidence. It affects your relationships, how you move forward in your life, and how happy you feel in general.
Essentially, any ‘body’ issues will stem from an imbalanced Sacral Chakra: physical issues such as weight gain or loss are linked to Sacral blockages which can be emotional/mental blocks or even karmic blockages from another lifetime.
This blog post will explore the Sacral Chakra, the key characteristics, the teachings of this Chakra, what it means to have an imbalanced Sacral Chakra as well as ways you can balance it for yourself.
The Sacral Chakra at a Glance
The sacral chakra, or Swadisthana in Sanskrit, has received the nicknames “the sex chakra” from its association with reproductive systems and processes as well as relationships.
It is also known for being your center of pleasure both sensually and creatively — this holds true whether you are experiencing sexual activity or a sense of adventure out on an evening stroll.
Sexuality is often the first thing that comes to mind when one thinks about our sacral chakra. However, creativity for life is another aspect of this important energy center in which we mustn’t forget.
Besides being concerned with sex (and Tantra), it also governs passion and pleasure as a whole; which manifest themselves within us in many different ways including artistry or entertainment such as cooking up some delicious recipes or even just having fun on any given day!
On the other side is sensuality, in the sense of finding peace and harmony with one’s own natural human sexuality

What the Sacral Chakra Teaches Us
Our Sacral Chakra helps us to feel the enjoyment and enthusiasm for life which can be seen in the way we live it up with beauty or create new things that will last forever like relationships and finances. This teaches us to embrace, honor, and express our emotions.
When people have a good flow of energy going through this area, they are able to give others their best selves while also taking on what’s necessary for themselves. This chakra allows us to bring forth the beauty and abundance in our surroundings through laughter, joy, creativity, and also intuition.
Another lesson the Sacral chakra teaches is that every relationship we create, from the casual to the most intimate, has a purpose. No matter how painful or difficult our circumstances may seem at times – whether it be illness or depression- there are always lessons being taught which will help us grow and become more aware of who we truly are.
Signs of an Imbalanced Sacral Chakra
- Pain in the lower back
- Produce a sense of being alone
- Pain in the sacrum
- Impact the relationship with your mother and father
- A lack of self-worth
- Pain in the hips and/or legs
- An inability to find what you need to feel at home in life
- Impacts creativity and personal expression through blockages
- Creates challenges when seeking out relationships or maintaining ones that are already there
- Menstrual problems
- Menopause Symptoms
- Sexual Dysfunctions
- Urinary trouble
- Pain in Groin and Pelvis
- Poor Diet
- Fatigue
- Depression/ Anxiety
People with Sacral chakra imbalances often find themselves feeling distrustful, fearful, or unattractive. It can lead to sexual dysfunctions and genital pain, as well as problems in the bladder and bowel areas.
A Sacral Imbalance also leads to difficulty in concentrating or focusing on the needs of others or oneself. It may cause one to feel heavy in their body and too grounded at times. Imbalances may make it difficult for people to connect with others and be “present” in social situations; they may feel isolated from people or experiences that are happy or uplifting.
How to Balance/Heal/Open the Sacral Chakra
Here are some simple ways to balance that Sacral Chakra.
Acknowledge your Sacral Chakra Needs some Work
I understand this may be obvious, but it may not be for some. We can’t work on anything until we acknowledge that we have work to do. That is the first step to healing. Once you acknowledge the physical and energetic body needs support, the healing process has already begun.
Work with the color Orange
So each Chakra is associated with different colors. The Sacral Chakra’s color is orange. When doing any sacral work always try to incorporate the color that is associated with the chakra. You could wear an orange shirt, or work with orange stones or crystals.
Connect with the Water Element
The Sacral Chakra is connected to the water element so nourishing your body inside and out with water will help that sacral chakra. We should be taking in plenty of water. We can even get fancy with drinking from a bottle that is infused with an orange crystal or adding oranges to our water.
If you live someplace with natural springs, head out, and take a day for your sacral chakra! If you don’t live by natural springs, take that bath you have been putting off and drop some orange essential oils in the bathtub!
Get your Creative Juices Flowing
This center is all about creativity. When I hear others say they are not creative I always call BS. LOL Everyone is creative in their own way. Most people think of art or drawing, but creativity is personal to each person. There is no right or wrong way to do this.
Just do what makes you happy, joyful, and causes you to laugh
- Coloring
- Cooking
- Drawing
- Gardening
- Working on cars
- Video Games
- Doing activities that bring you joy
- Baking
- Dancing
- Putting dance routines together
- Making that awesome video
- Editing music or video
- Yoga
- Meditation
- Nature Walks
See it can be anything. And if you don’t know what that is for you, start exploring new things and try one new thing a day until you find something that makes you happy! You have to explore to find it!

Getting comfortable with Stillness
I do understand stillness and turning inward is a bit scary. Trust me I have done much work and even find myself at times afraid to find stillness and connect with myself. But if needs to be done.
Once we are still we can start tuning into our higher self and listen to what it’s saying. WE can connect with our emotions in a deeper way and start acknowledging situations and experiences we have just shoved down there.
For example, When you wake up in the morning why not have your glass of water, then start your tea, and while that’s brewing go sit outside and use your senses to observe all that is around you in nature. The smells you smell, the beautiful sounds you can hear, the amazing outdoors is just waiting for you to tune in.
Connecting with your Sacral Chakra More
Start asking yourself better questions (journaling)
Let’s start by getting those thoughts and feelings out of our heads. That clears up space so we can examine what’s going on. It connects us with our emotions on a deeper level. Once you start asking yourself better clearer questions, the answers get better and better as well.
Questions you can ask
- Do you love your body?
- Are you fueling your passions?
- Do you enjoy looking at your body?
- What are you creating?
- Do you enjoy feeling your body?
- When was the last time you stepped outside barefoot to connect with the sacred earth on your feet?
- What are you giving to the world?
- Are you happy with your sex life?
